A Baseball Party for My Three Year Old

Levi chose a baseball theme for his party this year---which was really great.  As much as I LOVE throwing parties, I needed easy this year.  So here it is.  I cannot find pictures of the food and "concession" sign.  We served typical ball park food: hot dogs, chips, nachos, and cracker jack.  The kids played pin-the-ball-on-the-bat created and planned by my favorite party helper, our neighbor March, and the kids destroyed a baseball pinata. (Ok maybe my adult brother was the one to give the final whack.)  It was fun!

(Ack. MARCH!  I cannot find a picture of your wreath either.  I failed in documenting your awesome party decor. :()

My Beauties

For Mother's Day/Father's Day, I really wanted to get a great photo of my two babies together to print for the parents.  That was super hard...did not turn out as envisioned.  Oh, and the parents have still not seen the photo, nor have I printed it...but I was sick of it sitting back on my computer.  So here are my two beauties.

And for fun, my favorite outtakes.  (There were A LOT of outtakes!)

Levi Harper: 3 years

My oldest baby, who insists he is a "Big Boy" nowadays just turned three.  It flew by, and I am afraid everything is going to go even faster now that I have two babies.  So for each baby, I have made my "dear baby" books that I post on the blog.  These go from the first part of pregnancy through their first birthday.  However I would also like to keep up with something on a yearly basis for the kiddos.  So every year, I am going to write each child a letter in the same spirit of my monthly baby ones and also ask them a series of questions (starting at age three) to see how their answers change.  I have not quite figured out the format for the yearly book, but know it will involve a couple photos and need to be able to adapt to changing media formats/technology.  So here is the letter, a couple recent Levi photos, and his three year "20 questions."

Dear Levi,

These past three years have been amazing.  I always knew I wanted to be a Mommy, and that it would be wonderful.  However, it is more wonderful than I could have ever imagined.  It also is scarier than I ever thought.  Oh all the worry I have now!  Your third year was so, so fun.   Your vocabulary skyrocketed this year.  It is so cool getting to have conversations with you all the time.  You are such a cool kid.  You are very well behaved, rarely needing time outs.  You hate going to bed, so that is almost always a struggle.  Your favorite foods are pizza, ice cream, and chips and salsa.   You like to go places a lot.  Every time we leave somewhere, you say "Go another place?"  You gained a lot of independence this year.  You became potty trained, climb in your car seat by yourself, and do so many other things by yourself.  You became a big brother this year too, and I could not ask for you to handle it any better.  It seems like you were meant for the role.  You have shown no signs of jealousy and are always concerned when Mira cries.  You like to "see" her and get right up in her face and give her kisses on the head.  You love playing cars and superheroes best, but really like playing with lots of toys.  Daddy and I have so much fun with you.  As cheesy as it sounds, you light up our lives.  I think you have made Daddy realize that being a parent is so much greater than he ever imagined.  The other day, you went upstairs by yourself to play with a new toy.  Daddy got this look on his face and said "Pretty soon, he won't even want to be in the same room as us."  But we will soak up this time when you still think we are pretty cool.  We both love you more than you can know.  Thank you for making us parents three years ago.  Happy birthday sweet boy!

Love, Mommy

(I tried to give minimal guidance as he answered these and to do it all in one sitting so as not to influence his answers in any way.  That means three questions went unanswered this year, but I am okay with that.  My commentary in parentheses.)

1. What is your favorite color?  Blue
2. What is your favorite toy? Lightening McQueen and Mater
3. What is your favorite food? Crackers  (Wha???)
4. What is your favorite TV show or movie?  The Dolphin Show  (I think he is referring to the dolphin show at the Indianapolis Zoo.)
5. What is your favorite outfit?  Blue Big Brother Shirt
6. What is your favorite game?
7. What is your least favorite food? “The Cheese”  ( He loves cheese!  I made sure he fully understood this question.  He said, “The cheese is yucky.”)
8. What is your favorite animal?  Dog
9. What is your favorite song?  Baseball Song  (Take Me Out to the Ballgame)
10. What is your favorite book?  The Giraffe Book and The Elephant Book  (I don’t know…)
11. Who is your best friend?  “you” (as in Mommy.  Hey, I’ll take it!)
12. Where is your favorite place to go? The Library
13. What is your favorite thing to do outside?
14. What is your favorite drink?  Chocolate Milk
15. What do you like to take to bed with you at night?  Mamaw Amber  (Well, that will make her feel good.  I think he said this because he sleeps in her bed when he stays with her.  He sleeps with lots of animals, but his blue and white doggy is his favorite.)
16. What is the thing that you are the best at? Building Things
17. If you could change your name, what would it be? Levi Harper McHugh  (*smile*
)

(He says Mira will be a car.)
19. What do you want to do before your next birthday?
20. If you had $1,000, what would you buy? A Doggy

Mira June: 2 months

"You have grown so much this month.  You started smiling, quite a bit.  It is the most beautiful open mouth grin in the whole world.  Sometimes I can get you "talking" and smiling.  You are so sweet and pretty.  You are a very calm and laid back baby.  You rarely cry, just squeal a little to let us know you need something.  I am having so much fun watching you develop and take in the world around you.  You like to bury your face as you fall asleep. You will turn your head and push in on me when I am holding you, and try to do the same when laying in a bed or seat.  Levi calls you "Bugjune" instead of "Junebug."  It is pretty fitting.  I love calling you all sorts of nicknames: Peanut Butter, Missy J, Sweetie Butt, and whatever other weird names come out of my mouth.  I love you so much and can no longer imagine my life without you."

Uncle Aaron

Today, my sweet, little Big Boy turned three!  Cannot believe it.  We celebrated by having chocolate chips in oatmeal for breakfast, going to park #1, a visit from Uncle Aaron and Papaw Coleman, park visit #2, Chinese buffet for dinner, smoothies, and a walk with Daddy in his new wagon.
